26-01-2021 // SHARABLE

Even though we hand in our shareable as a tangible project, we also post the content on the blog so the shareable is accessible to everyone. INTRODUCTION  The city of Eindhoven is growing and has ambitions to transform the Brainport area into an internationally interesting junction with its unique TDK profile. TDK stands for Tech, Design and Knowledge; a rare combination of core qualities that form the specific skill set of the city. It comes naturally that the area within the central ring of the city evolves with these ambitions. There are a lot of areas in (re)development and the Emmasingelkwadrant is one of them. The municipality drew up a vision document with guidelines for the future of the neighborhood. Apart from the vast creation of high-rise huising, the most drastic change in the plans is the creation of a central park in the area.   However, there is one big obstacle.  When the Philips company left the terrain, most of the ground was sold to real estate develop...

ABCD as strategy Rekindling Democracy Demarcation This week we planned the last three conversations for this project. The first conversation this week was with Mike. He lives in the Regentekwartier and has always been amazed at the overdue maintenance in this part of the center. Mike thinks you can't expect much from the people who live in this area; mainly seniors and expats do live here who are most likely not open to being actively involved. Many things have been promised to the inhabitants of this area, which has not been fulfilled. This makes people passive towards taking initiative’’ He is, however, willing to actively contribute ideas and think about the possibilities, including social initiative. We also spoke with Atul, who is originally from India and works as a technical leader-electronics for Philips. He notices that hardly anyone in the neighborhood knows each other. He would like to see that differently; a connected neighborhood can ultimately achieve much more togeth...

11-01-2021 // SECOND ROUND OF CONVERSATIONS

Michele, resident of the Ventoseflat Sas, studio owner of the Lichttoren Laurens, resident of De Hertog Caspar, resident of De Vorst Peter, resident of De Vorst Olaf & Harry, residents of De Hertog *No time to read the whole blog? scroll down to striking information and the conclusion* As mentioned in the previous blog, we have a broader understanding of the neighborhood and want to discover the possibilities together with the stakeholders. We will make a start already by trying to see if an ABCD approach can change the form of conversation from discussion to constructive dialogue. collecting and gathering insights about the willingness of stakeholders to contribute and the internal possibilities is where we now want to focus on. Several inhabitants reacted to our flyer. We planned six conversations the first week after the Christmas Holidays. Meeting offline and online were both possible. If responders wanted to meet offline, they had to provide an offline location themselves. MIC...

08-01-2021 // ABCD

ABCD The Christmas Holidays are over, and while we have been working on this project during the holidays as well, it is now time to take action again. We got different reactions to both the sent update and the flyer. In the coming days, we will plan conversations with the people that did respond to the flyer. However, these conversations will have a different approach than the conversations we have had during the first research phase. In the first conversations we wanted to get in touch with different stakeholders from the area, find out what kind of people we are dealing with, experience what is going on in the neighborhood, discover where the needs lie and what we as Community Designers could contribute. Although many stakeholders have identified positive points and opportunities in the area, the emphasis has often been on the negative. We have highlighted these frustrations and pain points in the area among other things in order to make the municipality see the urgency to be visibly...

Update Amanda, TrainMore UPDATE Yesterday we delivered the flyers to all stakeholders in the Emmasingelkwadrant.  We are very curious about the responses we will receive. Before we enter into conversations with new stakeholders, it is important to inform the stakeholders that we have already spoken to about our process. The stakeholders in the Emmasingelkwadrant indicated that the moment they provide input, they receive little or no feedback. This gives them the impression that they are not being heard and that little is done with their ideas and input. That is why we think it is important to update them about our process. We want to involve them and show them that they are being listened to. In this way, we try to create a kind of bond with the stakeholders and give them the idea that they can actually contribute something to improving the livability in the Emmasingelkwadrant. Before we sent the update, we had it checked by Maurice so that we did not 'pass' our client. The upd...
