Update

UPDATE
Yesterday we delivered the flyers to all stakeholders in the Emmasingelkwadrant.
We are very curious about the responses we will receive. Before we enter into conversations with new stakeholders, it is important to inform the stakeholders that we have already spoken to about our process. The stakeholders in the Emmasingelkwadrant indicated that the moment they provide input, they receive little or no feedback. This gives them the impression that they are not being heard and that little is done with their ideas and input. That is why we think it is important to update them about our process. We want to involve them and show them that they are being listened to. In this way, we try to create a kind of bond with the stakeholders and give them the idea that they can actually contribute something to improving the livability in the Emmasingelkwadrant. Before we sent the update, we had it checked by Maurice so that we did not 'pass' our client. The update we have sent to the stakeholders we have already spoken to:
Hi Theo,
How are you doing?
As promised, an update about the progress of our project in the Emmasingelkwadrant. For further questions or input, please get in touch! We are happy to see if we can help one another.
The municipality asked us to create a ‘positive buzz’ in the Emmasingelkwadrant in the run up to the planned developments. Nevertheless, we first wanted to gain a better understanding of the situation in the area before committing to that goal. We spoke with residents, tenants, rental agents, local and social entrepreneurs about how they experience the area. Thank you all for sharing your vision on what you see, what you think and what you would like to see in the future.
Behind the scenes, we have experienced the municipality to be highly concerned with the future of the area. Unfortunately, many of you do not experience what we have seen. We have often received questions like; What is happening? How come we see so little change? Where can I have a say in any of the things happening and how is my input handled? The information provision has been unsatisfactory.
Based on your input, we gave a presentation to the municipality. We have advised them to start being visually active regarding the matters you have raised. Moreover, we advised providing more insight into the overall situation in the area and what the municipality does to improve it. Our council was taken to heart and the municipality wants to get busy with it right away.
In consultation with the municipality, Amber and I have decided not to focus on creating a short-term positive buzz in the area. Instead, we will aim our energy at stimulating lasting connections between inhabitants, entrepreneurs, and other stakeholders in the area. The voice of a well-represented, united, and organized neighborhood is powerful and will be heard.
During the upcoming time, we will converse with residents about how we can organize and support a lasting connection.
We will work from the following question; How can we work on the future of the neighborhood based on the needs of its residents?
We have convinced the municipality to work WITH the neighborhood to build its future. We will grab the opportunity to make the Emmasingelkwadrant an even greater part of Eindhoven with both hands, but we cannot do that by ourselves.
Now it is your turn. Let’s keep talking!
Happy holidays and all the best,
Amber Klijn and Jesse Ulrich
DUTCH VERSION:
Hi Joris,
Aanvullende vragen of andere input ontvangen we graag!
Laten we blijven Buurten.
Fijne feestdagen en een gezond 2021 toegewenst!
Met enthousiaste groet,
Amber Klijn en Jesse Ulrich.
This is the general outline of the update. Everyone has received this update, and for a number of people we have added some extra notes.
TRAINMORE
Last Wednesday (16-12-2020), we spoke with Amanda. Amanda is the assistant club manager of Trainmore, a gym located in the Emmasingelkwadrant adjacent to the Lichtplein. This conversation was actually planned way earlier, but due to different reasons postponed to last Wednesday. As mentioned earlier, from now on we will not write down all details from all conversations. We will identify the most important or striking points from the conversations. We saw this conversation as a kind of 'practice conversation'; we mainly tried to focus on what is possible and not on what is not possible.
The gym is located in a 'forgotten corner'; people often indicate that the gym is difficult to find. That is why Amanda indicates that it would be interesting for TrainMore to be more visible in the neighborhood.
At the moment TrainMore gives outdoor lessons. These lessons take place on the square in front of the gym. When the park is built, it would be great if they could give their outdoor lessons in the park.
When we ask Amanda why the outdoor lessons are not given on the lawn (the park as it is now), she indicates that it is a bit too far for instructors to bring all the materials. She also indicates that it is an open place. This sometimes makes people insecure to participate, because they feel like everyone is watching them.
Amanda is excited about the future park; they can literally look out on the park from their gym.
Amanda likes to organize something with and for the neighborhood. She indicated that TrainMore is open to organizing boot camps for different target groups. This way, the neighborhood can get to know TrainMore and TrainMore can recruit new members.
Amanda would like to participate when we organize a stakeholder meeting.
Although Amanda is not a resident of the Emmasingelkwadrant, she also indicated that TrainMore would benefit if the livability in the neighborhood would improve. Amanda has not said anything negative about the situation in the Emmasingelkwadrant. It was therefore not difficult to talk to her about the possibilities in this neighborhood. Although TrainMore does not actually do anything with or for the neighborhood, they are certainly open to it. What strikes us is that everyone wants to think about the possibilities and have ideas about how to improve livability, but that no one actually takes action. That may also be difficult, especially if you do not know who is willing to participate. Through all the conversations we have, we are increasingly convinced that bringing people together can be a step towards finding the shared ambition and a more representative and connected neighborhood.
